Winter Positions with TLH Heliskiing at
Tyax Lodge
A remote mountain lodge, no 'town' to speak of and 44 new
faces and names to meet every week...still interested? There are many
departments involved to keep a smooth heli-ski operation going. And of course,
it takes many talented people to fill the many roles needed to bring interested
heliskiers to our location. Below you will find a list of positions and what
you, the potential applicant, can expect from the job. Keep in mind, it is a
job, though perhaps one of the most interesting you'll ever experience. Everyone
that puts in a winter season at Tyax Lodge has memories that will stay with them
- the kind of stories that are shared on a chairlift or perhaps back at the bar
after an epic day of powder. Each of the winter positions involves long days,
intense client interaction and above all, the need to show our clients the best
possible heliski experience in British Columbia. And yes, our winter staff enjoy
the treat of heliskiing and heliboarding based on a rotation of staff and
available seats. Most positions at the lodge are based on a 2 weeks on - one
week off model. Staff are encouraged to leave the lodge to enjoy their week off
and are discouraged from having other employment during their time off from
TLH.
-
Service staff at the
lodge
Every winter from January through April, we are in need of
talented individuals to work with us in order to provide the best possible
customer experience. With up to 80 people (guests and staff combined) to look
after, servers and bartenders work with each other to ensure that clients
needs are met and expectations - surpassed.
-
Kitchen staff at the
lodge
All kitchen positions come together to produce tantalizing
meals that keep our valuable clients happy and well fed. From dishwashing to
the executive chef, the kitchen crew is pivotal to the overall experience of a
TLH client. Special menu planning is often required, so the more creative you
are, the better.
-
Massage Therapists
You are
the key to survival for many of our guests that may not be able to dedicate
the time to pre-trip conditioning workouts. Massage therapists also are
responsible for morning Yoga/stretch classes that many guests attend. Your day
may start at 06:00 and it could end at 22:00.
-
Radio Operators / Ski and Board
Techs
Primary duty is maintaining radio contact with up to 4
helicopters at once. Willingness to learn our communications protocol and an
ability to interpret topographical maps is critical. Secondary duties are as
the ski/board tech. It's not all about waxing and smiling so interested
applicants need to have resort-based tech experiences in a demanding
atmosphere. Picture 44 people all anxious to get in the helicopter… can you
manage AND keep a grin?
-
Internationally Certified Mountain
Guides
Our guides are chosen not only for their guiding skills and
qualifications, but also for their enthusiastic and outgoing personalities.
They are professional guides who have passed a series of comprehensive
examinations to qualify them as members of the A.C.M.G. and the U.I.A.G.M.,
the recognized Canadian and International Mountain Guide Associations. They
are experienced at balancing exciting and challenging skiing/riding with the
safety and enjoyment for the entire group. We do not employ tail-guides.
-
Vancouver/Whistler
Concierge
Do you know the city well and enough about Whistler to
ensure that all transfers go smooth? Can you entertain a mixed group of
international heliskiers the night before their trip? How are you under
pressure? What would you do if Hans from Germany arrived to Vancouver without
any of his luggage?
Year round positions at our office in
Vernon, BC Why Vernon many people ask? Think of California-style
summers and powder skiing 20 minutes away. Need we say more? Though we have
provided a brief overview of positions, TLH Heliskiing is a small organization
which means an ever expanding list of responsibilities in-line with an employees
comfort with their job.
-
Sales
It's all about putting
'bums on seats'. From chatting to a ski-patroller that is ready to bust the
piggy bank to clients with more vertical of heliskiing than you'll get in a
lifetime of resort-skiing - all types of powder hounds choose TLH. Organized,
enthusiastic and the ability to multi-task are all critical factors for this
position. Working closely with management, this position is critical to the
overall success of TLH Heliskiing.
-
Reservations
Once a sale is
confirmed, it's up to our reservations staff to ensure timely collection of
payments. Staff also assist clients with travel related issues and provide
local knowledge for pre/post heli plans. Often times our reservations staff
become the one-voice of TLH that most clients remember before they make their
way to British Columbia.
